Nuggett Secures Championship with Team Purple at National Western Stock Show Performance Horse Showdown
Nuggett, trained and shown by Kyle Trahern, delivered an impressive performance at the National Western Stock Show Performance Horse Showdown, helping secure the championship for Team Purple in this unique multi-discipline event.
Held during the opening days of the legendary National Western Stock Show, the Performance Horse Showdown brought together top athletes from three major western performance disciplines: reining, reined cow horse, and roping.
Teams of three riders—each representing one discipline—were randomly drawn and competed individually in their events. The combined scores determined the overall team championship in the double-judged competition, which offers more than $17,000 in payouts and individual jackpots for the highest scores in each event.
Nuggett had no trouble stepping up to the challenge.
Under Kyle Trahern’s guidance, he lit up the pen in both the reining and cow work, showcasing the athleticism, cow sense, and trainability that define the kind of horses we love to ride.
His strong performances contributed to Team Purple securing the overall championship, earning the team well-deserved recognition, and a championship buckle!
Events like the Performance Horse Showdown highlight the versatility and athleticism required of today’s top western performance horses.
With competitors representing disciplines such as Reining, Reined Cow Horse, and Tie-Down Roping, the event celebrates the skills that make American Quarter Horses exceptional athletes across multiple arenas.
Nuggett’s success in both the reining and cow work portions of the competition demonstrates the kind of balance, ability, and mindset that elite performance horses must possess.
Congratulations to Kyle Trahern & Nuggett, and all other competitors on Team Purple for their outstanding showing at the National Western Stock Show Performance Horse Showdown. It was a performance the entire KK team is excited about, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented horse!
